Sam Goody Music Stores
Concept Store Launch

Sam Goody, one of the nation’s oldest and most prolific music stores was suffering the same fate as most independent mall-based music retailers. They were going out of business. Big box retailers such as Best Buy and Target were taking a loss on cd’s in order to lure young people into the stores. Apple and iTunes were changing the way people bought their music. Sam Goody need to evolve. They began work on a mall-based kiosk/lounge that would serve today’s youth a mixture of culture, phones, games, mp3 players, and apparel. The thought was that Sam Goody could transition their stores into these lounges and thereby stay current in the world of digital music.

Futurebrand did the original style treatment and name, and we came in with the strategy, look, and brand personality. Our team did everything, and brought a considerable amount of content to the project, concepting a network that would allow users to connect with one another all over the country. The thought was that the Graze kiosks could serve as the local hotspot for the music culture, but that all of the hotspots could communicate, bringing local independent bands to the national stage.

It was a huge project, and we learned a lot about being independent and highly mobile as a creative unit. All of the photography was ours, and all of the models were our co-workers and friends. It all ended up having that “ home-made” feeling that went right into the brand.
